ARABIC CERTIFICATE

Arabic Certificate: Applicants who do not wish or qualify to enroll in the full time Hawzah Studies can apply for a part-time Certificate program and earn a certificate by Mufid Academic Seminary in Arabic language. 

As we continue to grow, Mufid is pleased to announce the successful completion of 6 semesters of Arabic learning!

About: The Arabic Certificate is an online program for those who are interested in strengthening their knowledge in the Arabic language. The goal of this program is to strengthen Quranic Arabic and be able to analyze Quranic passages and hadith narrations. 

This Quranic Arabic course will be taught by Shaykh Mahdi M. Shahkolahi according to the curriculum provided by Fawakih.org. Depending on the participant’s prior knowledge, the course will be offered on three levels – Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each participant will be placed into a level according to their result on the placement session (see below). 

Credits for Certification: This certificate consists of 12 credits or 4 courses which will be taken over the course of 4 academic semesters. Enrolled students will be given a maximum of 3 years to complete the required coursework. Upon the successful completion of the courses, all participants will receive a Certificate in Arabic.

Tuition: The tuition for each 3-credit course is $1500. Fees may be proceeded through Mufid’s PayPal at the end of the registration form or here.

Scholarships: At this time, Mufid is offering a 50% discount to eligible college students who apply for the scholarship. This scholarship is applicable only up to two courses. To apply for this scholarship, please write a personal statement of a maximum of 150 words. In this statement, please include 1) Why you would like to join this program, 2) Your goals for this program, and 3) How you think this program will benefit you. 

After Registration: There will be a live online session with all participants. The instructor will evaluate the Arabic level of each students and the appropriate class for each student will be assigned.

Shaykh Mahdi Shahkolahi (Instructor )

Shaykh Mahdi Mohammadpour Shahkolahi is currently pursuing doctoral study in the Department of Theological and Religious Studies at Georgetown University. Raised in Maryland, Shaykh Mahdi earned his B.S. in Information Systems from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (cum laude). Upon graduation, he spent 9 years studying traditional seminary sciences in Qom, Iran, earning a B.A. in Islamic Studies and Jurisprudence (summa cum laude), and an M.A. in Islamic Studies and Jurisprudence, with a minor in Philosophy (magna cum laude), from the Islamic Seminary of Qom.

In addition to his studies at the Islamic Seminary of Qom, Mahdi spent 2 years as a visiting student at Imam Sadiq (as) Institute (under the auspices of Grand Ayatollah Jaʿfar Subhani) studying kalam, Sadrian Philosophy (al-Hikma al-Muta’aliya), Islamization of the Sciences, Philosophy of Religion, and Epistemology. During his graduate studies in Qom, Shaykh Shahkolahi also served as a lecturer at the Islamic Seminary of Qom, teaching undergraduate courses in Arabic Morphology (sarf), Arabic Syntax (nahw), and kalam.

Shaykh Shahkolahi serves the Muslim community – both in the Washington, D.C. metro area and throughout North America – by presenting talks, conducting workshops, and teaching classes at Islamic centers/masjids, seminaries, universities, schools, and spiritual retreats.

Summer 2022 (Passed)

Summer 2022 Courses(May 23rd to August 29th.): Mufid Academic Seminary is offering Quranic Arabic certificate courses during Summer 2022! 

These courses will be taught via live Zoom sessions from the comfort of your home. Each course consists of two meetings per week for 15 weeks, so please plan accordingly. The timing of classes is mostly in the evening time and the recorded Zoom meetings will be available to the students for the classes they missed. 

This Summer 2022 semester we are offering level one Quranic Arabic on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 pm EST and level two Quranic Arabic on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 pm EST.
